I have really, really, really had enough of these people. I started making poser content because I enjoyed it, it was fun to see what the next idea would turn into. Now it's just not fun anymore. It's not fun to see a package you spent 2 months working on get uploaded for free after you sold 10 copies of it. It's even less fun to watch a package you sold 2 copies of end up on one of these sites and then watch it drop into clearance because it never sells another copy after the "sharers" upload it.
They say that they are not hurting anyone, they are not hurting our sales because none of them were going to buy it anyway. Well then if they weren't going to buy it anyway why do they need it? Why do they feel entitled to have it? Why do they think that I don't deserve to get paid for my work? I buy resources. I buy software,I paid for my copy of Adobe photoshop and poser 6, 7 and pro, and every other piece of software I use in developing my content... I spend valuable time on every single package I release to make sure that people who buy it get a good value for their money. I price my products far below the work that actually goes into them and I am very lucky to break even. So why do these people think I don't deserve to get paid? I wonder if they would like it if the people they worked for told them at the end of the day, hey thanks for sharing all that hard work with me, it didn't hurt you any because I wasn't going to pay you anyway...
Just because something is digital and can be downloaded does not mean that you are entitled to have it for free. All of us who make poser content work very hard and we deserve to get paid as much as anyone else who does a job or offers a service or product. We are not rich. We are not big software companies, we are not microsoft or adobe or any of the other expensive software companies. We are all independant artists who bust our asses to bring you nice things for a low price. We are not getting rich here. We are not greedy. We are lucky to break even. We sell our products for far less than they are worth if you were to add up all the work we all put into them. Lets not forgot that most of us also pay the brokerages between 40 and 50% of each sale. So why do these people think that we don't deserve to get paid. I am very close to closing up shop at this point. It is just not worth it when something doesn't even get a chance to sell a reasonable amount before these people upload it for free for everyone.
Well Thats my rant for the evening folks and hey if you're a "sharer" and you're reading this I would really like you to tell me why we poser merchants don't deserve to get paid for our work and why if you weren't going to buy something anyway you feel the need to have it. I am curious...

The problem is that you are equalling the downloaded content with a bought content. Usually that doesn't really work. A downloaded copy simply cannot translate to a bought copy. Many people out there probably would have to have lots of more money than they actually have.
Nevertheless: I understand that it hurts your sales, your profit and maybe even your ego.
I'm sorry that your sales are hurt but on the other hand I am also sorry that I have to buy stuff like this in the first place. (not that I would. I'm a writer, if anything at all)
I believe in a very different phisolophy, one of freedom and sharing. As long as I don't do the stuff I do for a living ... well, there's the Creative Commons License, which I use.
Now, don't get me wrong guys and girls. If it isn't free, you shouldn't share it.
But if you create stuff and you don't do so to make a living from it ... share it. Money already rules a great part of this world. Don't let money rule art.
Sorry if that's not 100% of what you wanna hear.

you have to buy pens, paint, paper, canvas to draw and paint traditional, you can't just STEAL it. and thats essentially what all the pirates are doing. they STEAL the material need to make their "art". and its wrong, no matter what philosophy you might believe.

On the subject on the why people do it, I believe its because its just so simple on the internet. There is no security guard looking at you, no sensors to go off, no cameras. When we have no one watching us, we become other people. Unfortunately there is nothing out there as of yet to do this.
Lastly, there are so many out there that have the "it should be Free" mentality. They see what artist/content creators make as Art not as their paying jobs so maybe thats their way of rationalizing what they do, be it wrong.

some how we need to get the idea spread that if it's offered for sale and you take it without paying, you're stealing.

Neither Angel of Heaven nor Demon of Hell, I wander the fine grey line between.
This is a cheap and transparent excuse for being a thief. Anyone who believes they are serving some higher value of making something not about money when they steal is is just lying to themselves.
I feel for you Kaleya but unfortunately digital property is just not enforceable and people are good at reaching around their own moral constraints when it is easy for them to do so. I hope you will keep making art because you love it but I know it's not fair to you.

"With great creativity, comes great emotionality."
Of course, there is the money side but there is also the creative side. And the second one is bound to the first one.
No money means that it is impossible to buy new resources, new items to texture (because creators do not receive all the items for free), ...
There is also the psychological aspect because when you see that your new creation does not sell anymore after two days (because it is offered for free to who wants to pick it up), you have less ideas (to not say no more ideas), it does take more time to create something, and all that does destroy the creator's ability and mood to create.
And the result is that the creator is obligated to stop creating... Not because it is her/his decision but because it becomes impossible and pointless to do so.
And it is the worst thing that can happen to a creator...
